Although German car makers clearly stay ahead of the game, one other brand has managed to get a spot in the top five of 2020:
The top three has remained unchanged and unreached for the past three years. Only BMW and Mercedes swapped places compared to 2019. Behind the top five leaders come two French car makers, Renault and Peugeot, followed by Ford (USA), Volvo (SWE), and Hyundai (KOR).
Thanks to the success of its wide production line, Volkswagen was again crowned champion in 2020. The “Golf” remains one of the brand’s most successful models with 1,235 registrations last year. In comparison, the Renault “Clio” had 846, and the Volkswagen “Tiguan” 676. Other notable mentions are the VW “T-Roc”, which was the fifth most sold model of 2020, right after the Volvo “CX40" in fourth place.
In the second half of the top ten, Skoda leads the field with the “Octavia” in sixth, and its SUV “Kodiaq” in seventh place. After that comes Renault’s SUV “Captur”, followed by Peugeot’s “208". The final spot goes to Audi’s “Q3 Sportback”.
