Following the fatal stabbing in Limpertsberg, in which one woman lost her life and a second was seriously injured, the father of the surviving victim spoke to RTL and gave updates on his daughter’s recovery.

According to her father, the second victim is gradually recovering emotionally. At the time of the assault, she was in the flat where she lives with her 13-month-old child. While the suspected perpetrator was with the first victim who later died in the basement of the residence, the second victim had just put her child to bed.

After hearing unusual noises coming from downstairs, she went to investigate, fearing something was wrong. She briefly turned back to retrieve her phone before returning to the basement, where she came face to face with the attacker.

10 days in intensive care

According to her father, she was stabbed several times, including in the hands, neck, and abdomen. Despite her serious injuries, the young woman continued to fight back and, worried about her child, managed to make it up one floor. There, she was able to alert her brother’s partner, who also lives in the building. Thanks to her swift intervention, the second victim was taken to hospital.

Her father said she underwent eight hours of surgery. In total, three major operations were required, including procedures to the chest near the lung, to the neck, where the main artery was narrowly missed, and to her hands, where tendons and nerves had been severed and had to be repaired.

After 10 days in intensive care, she has since been transferred to a standard hospital ward. Her father said she is now in a much better state emotionally, particularly as she has been able to be reunited with her child in recent days. The 13-month-old is currently relying on family support, as the mother’s hands are unlikely to be fully functional for several months. There is also a risk of lasting damage.

The father told RTL that his daughter had previously taken self-defence classes, which he believes may have saved her life, especially given that the suspected attacker is described as around 1.90 metres tall and of strong build.

In a separate article, the father’s lawyer, Philippe Penning, suggested that the young woman’s courageous reaction may have contributed to the suspect being stopped more quickly and possibly prevented further violence.

The investigation is ongoing.
