Welcome to our monthly guide to events happening in Luxembourg. Check out the massive offering of concerts and music festivals, films, dance, and of course, the Eurovision Song Contest with Luxembourg's very own Tali! With a little bit of luck and some sunshine, this next month of May will truly showcase what Luxembourg has to offer.
1 May - Fête du Travail et des Cultures - Luxembourg City - MEET
From theatre, comedy, magic and music to a gastronomic village, you will find family-friendly activities at the Labor and Cultures Festival in the square outside the Abbaye de Neumünster from 10:00 onwards, on this first bank holiday of May. Entrance is free.
1 - 2 May - The Last Five Years - CAPE Ettelbruck - THEATRE
The Last Five Years is a musical love story starring Cathy and Jamie, two lovers in their twenties, at the beginning of their careers. The musical love story is told from the two opposite ends of the timeline; Cathy starts at the end and Jamie at the beginning of the relationship. The show is in English, at CAPE Ettelbruck.
2 May - Avishai Cohen - den Atelier - Luxembourg City - MUSIC
For something different at den Atelier, internationally acclaimed bassist, singer, composer Avishai Cohen is presenting a new band and live show, in support of his new album 'Iroko'.
3 May - Tenacious D - Rockhal- Esch-sur-Alzette - MUSIC
Tickets have sold out for what is billed as the "Greatest Band in the World." Formed by Jack Black and Kyle Gass, with over 1 million Instagram followers, Tenacious D will be performing at the Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette. Tune in to Today Radio to win tickets for this sold out concert.
3-5 May - The Confessions - Grand Theatre - Luxembourg City - THEATRE
Alexander Zeldin's new play, "The Confessions" is based on interviews with his mother, plotting her history from growing up in Australia, to life in London and talking to her grandchild at the end of her life. In English with French surtitles.
3 - 4 May - LOA - Esch Belval - MUSIC

Are you ready to rave in the heart of Esch City? Luxembourg Open Air (LOA) is opening the festival season for this first weekend in May. The line up includes Will Sparks, Blasterjaxx, Juicy M, Vltra, Medun on Friday and Malaa, Regard, Goodboys, Tomy Romera and Cvpanile on Saturday. Day tickets and weekend passes available. Today Radio's Alice will be present on site, so be prepared to answer some questions...
4 May - UNICEF Lake Run - Echternach - MEET
Take part in a fun walk or run around the shores of Lake Echternach in support of children in need. Live music, food and drinks as well as kid-friendly activities. Registration is 25 euros per person. All proceeds go to UNICEF's projects around the world.
4 May - Antique and Flea Market - Luxembourg City - MARKETS
Bargain hunters and visitors can peruse and acquire curios, collectors' items and treasures at the antique and flea market, held on Place d’Armes twice a month.
4 May - All Ireland Fleadh Trio Champions- Merl - MUSIC
Hear Irish music at its best. The winners of the 2023 Fleadh (music festival) are coming to Luxembourg for a one-off concert. Doors open at 19:30 at Centre St. Gengoul, Merl.
4 May - Plant Exchange - Rotondes - Luxembourg City - MARKETS
The plant exchange is coming to town. Not only will you be able to buy organic vegetable, fruit, herb and flower plants, but you can also bring your own plants and seeds to exchange or give away. Remember to bring crates, boxes and trays to transport the plants! From 10:00 to 17:00 at the Rotondes in Luxembourg City.
4-5 May - Star Wars Marathon - Kinepolis – Luxembourg City - CINEMA
Calling all disciples in the galaxy far, far away, ready to embark on a 24-hour marathon cinema experience. You can watch all 9 films - from episode 1 to episode IX - in chronological order and on the big screen. Bring pillows and blankets. Check out Kinepolis for details.
5 May - Flea market - Luxembourg City - MARKETS
Head down to Place Guilaume for bargains at Luxembourg's monthly flea market. From 10am onwards.
6 May - Failing in Love - Carlitos – COMEDY
A stand up comedy show in English about failures in relationships and love with Victor Patrascan, a Romanian stand-up comedian and social commentator.
7 May - Eurovision semi final - Malmo, Sweden - MUSIC
Tali - "Fighter"
Tali, representing Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Fighter" is set to perform at the first semi-final on the 7th of May. Viewers in the 15 countries taking part in the first semi-final are eligible to vote alongside three of the countries pre-qualified for the Grand Final - France, Germany and Italy. You can vote using the official Eurovision Song Contest app, or by telephone and/or SMS. Voting will open after the last song (Tali) is performed for approximately 15 minutes. Tune in to Today Radio for a live commentary in English delivered by the sometimes chaotic but otherwise playful Meredith Moss and Sarah Tapp. The Grand Final will take place on Saturday 11 May. Go Tali!

Gravity & Other Myths is an Australian circus company pushing the boundaries of contemporary circus. Be amazed by 'Backbone', a show which celebrates human connection and the meaning of strength with acrobatic virtuosity.
8 - 12 May - International Jazz Festival - Dudelange – MUSIC
Something for you jazzophiles - Like a Jazz Machine is featuring 19 bands from all over the world, such as Andy Sheppard, Celine Bonacina, Dominic Miller, Jeff Ballard and Sun-MI Hong just to name a few. Opderschmelz are also making "hearing vests" available to deaf and hard of hearing people.
9 May - Europe Day - Luxembourg City - MEET

9 - 12 May - International Quilt Festival - Wilwerwiltz - ART
If you are looking something different over the holiday weekend, visit the International Quilt Festival, featuring exhibitions by textile artists such as Valerie Goodwin and Sheila Frampton-Cooper, both from the USA as well as artists from all over Europe. This is the 10th and last edition.
10 - 13 May - Luxembourg Guitar Festival - Conservatoire Luxembourg City - MUSIC
Top level concerts, masterclasses, and lectures, an instrument exhibition as well as competitions are all available for free, without reservation at the 3rd edition of the Luxembourg Guitar Festival at the Conservatoire in Luxembourg city. It includes a recital with Argentina’s Pablo Marquez on Saturday 11 May at 7pm.
11 May - Darkness Into Light - Luxembourg City - MEET

Charity walk to raise awareness for the causes of suicide and mental illness. Last year, nearly 500 people took part in the 5km charity walk, raising more than 17,000 euros. 11 May - Out of the Crowd Festival - Kulturfabrik, Esch - MUSIC

This is one busy weekend in the Grand Duchy, but we recommend you head down to Esch to celebrate 20 years of the best of modern and contemporary indie music. This year's line up includes Irish noise machine Gilla Band, post punkers Tramhaus, BDRMM, Cola as well as Red Dwarf Star.
Registrations to run in the marathon have now closed, but take part in the largest sports event in Luxembourg by cheering on the thousands of runners in the ING Night Marathon. It's a unique, family-friendly atmosphere with plenty of refreshments, music and food.
Immerse yourself in "Blue. The Night, the Sea, the Distance", a guided tour exploring the layers of meaning of the colour blue in the context of modern and contemporary art. Free, on registration at 6pm.
11 May - Opera Live: Madame Butterfly - Luxembourg City - OPERA/CINEMA
A chance to see the live stream of two rising stars come together to embody Puccini's drama, directed by Anthony Minghella. The Lithuanian singer Asmik Grigorian makes her Met debut as the innocent Butterfly, and Jonathan Tetelman as the cynical Pinkerton. Opera in three acts in Italian with English subtitles at Cine Utopia at 6.55pm.
12 May - Collections /Revelations - National Museum of Art - Luxembourg City - ART
Experience a new exhibition and guided tour in English on modern and contemporary art on the 4th floor of the museum. In addition to favourite works, the presentation also includes numerous new acquisitions from the last 4 years, which are being exhibited for the first time. The tours in English are on the 12.5 and 19.5 at 3pm. Entrance is free.
16 May - The Libertines - den Atelier - Luxembourg City - MUSIC
Bringing their new album "All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade", the Libertines, an English rock band formed in 1997 by frontmen Carl Barat and Pete Doherty, are performing at den Atelier in Hollerich. 18 May - Culture Forest Festival – Esch-sur-Alzette - MUSIC
You may have seen CHAiLD on TV during the final round as a candidate to represent Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest. Now the emerging pop artist from Luxembourg will perform at the music festival in park Clair-Chene in Esch, alongside Josh Island and lots of local bands of different genres such as Rock, Pop, Indie, and RnB.

The monthly Glacismaart is back. Taking place every 3rd Sunday of the month, it's an unmissable meeting place for Sunday walkers, looking for fruits and vegetables, culinary delicacies, flowers and plants.

21 May – Hopping Procession – Echternach – MEET
Join the thousands of visitors, pilgrims and residents of Echternach in the unique, UNESCO-listed tradition at the "Sprangprozessioun" or Echternach Hopping Procession.
