A weekend of festivities will follow next Friday’s coronation, with highlights including 32 local artists performing on a rotating stage and a large-scale performance featuring eight trams on the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge.

Festivities will take place across the country on the weekend following the coronation next Friday, including a nationwide tour for the new Grand Ducal couple, with a final phase in the capital. On Wednesday morning, further details were released at the capital's town hall.

On Saturday, 5 October, 32 artists from Luxembourg’s music scene will perform on a 360-degree stage at the Glacis car park. The event will also feature a drone show, a public viewing area, and a performance on the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge involving eight trams

Atelier director Laurent Loschetter explains: "This spectacle involves eight themes, topics that matter to the new Grand Duke and will shape the future. Each tram embodies one of these themes, and our mission is to bring together people who have contributed to them in Luxembourg over the years."

1,600 members of the public have been selected to participate in the show. The spectacle will have a musical accompaniment. The bridge will be closed temporarily over the weekend, from 10pm to 5am, in order for the preparations to take place. Then, on 5 October, it will be closed from 1pm until Sunday evening. The tram will also be suspended between the Philharmonie and Place de l'Etoile on Saturday from 6pm until 10am the next day.

Luxembourg City alderman Patrick Goldschmidt says:

"From 10pm, trams will resume their normal service and pass via the Glacis during the spectacle. However, the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge will remain closed until the following day, with access still permitted for cyclists and pedestrians on Saturday evening."
