National weather service MeteoLux has issued an orange alert for flooding, warning that significant rainfall might potentially cause minor floods in the south of the Grand Duchy.
Heavy showers are forecast until Wednesday evening at 11.59pm. Between 30 and 40 litres per square metre, and locally even more, could fall over the next 24 hours.
The south of Luxembourg has now been placed under a orange flood alert, with water levels expected to peak in the afternoon.
According to Meteolux's morning report, persistent rainfall from the previous night "has already led to a rapid rise in water levels in the south of the country." On the Alzette, water levels are expected to exceed the orange alert line by midday in Hesperange, Pfaffenthal, and Steinsel, and could potentially reach the red level in the latter two.
In Mersch and Ettelbruck, the orange level could also be exceeded, with rapid rises in the levels of smaller streams across the territory occurring in parallel. Meanwhile, the alert level in Germany has just been raised to red.
Water levels and forecasts are regularly updated on the official website www.inondations.lu.
