In Luxembourg:

• Confirmed cases of coronavirus jumped to 1,099, an increase of 224 on the previous day, but the number of deaths remains at 8.

• 24 Luxembourgish tourists managed to escape Cuba only hours before the Caribbean island shut its borders.

• Prime Minister Xavier Bettel held a FAQ session on Twitter, in which he reiterated the importance of staying at home.

• Two further patients from France arrived in the Grand Duchy, as it emerged that Luxembourg ranks in the top five countries in the world for tests per capita.

• Luxembourg City cancelled all events until at least mid-June, while a new platform for children's extracurricular activitieswas launched.

In Tuesday's international developments:

• Global coronavirus cases have passed 400,000 and stand at 407,485, with 17,454 deaths and 104,234 recoveries. You can find more detailed statistics here.

• European care homes are being ravaged by the disease, as Spanish soldiers found some elderly people dead in their beds.

• The rate of daily deaths slowed for a second consecutive day in Italy, but Spain called on NATO for assistance as deaths in the country surged to 2,800.

• The neighbouring Grand Est region of France has been hit hard by the crisis, causing authorities to set up a military field hospital in Mulhouse.

• The World Health Organization warned that the USA could become the next epicentre of the pandemic after Europe, as two American states used the crisis as an excuse to suspend abortions. 

• With India announcing a 21-day lockdown, around one-third of the global population is in some sort of confinement, while the Tokyo Olympics were postponed to 2021.
