A pedestrian was waiting to cross Avenue de la Liberté at around 9.30pm when a cyclist sped through the red light at the zebra crossing. The pedestrian went on to follow the cyclist and punched him in the face, at which point the cyclist responded in kind. Both individuals sustained minor injuries and were fined by the police at the scene. The Grand Ducal police did not specify the role played by the other two individuals involved in the incident.
A number of people were arrested on Tuesday as they represented a risk to themselves and others.
At around 3.15pm, police were notified of a vehicle driving the wrong way across a construction site on Rue de Beggen in Eich. The driver was visibly intoxicated and had previously stolen a can of beer from a shop on Rue d'Eisch.
A police patrol located the man at his home and searched the vehicle, which turned out to have a flat tyre. The driver, still intoxicated, refused to cooperate with police, escalating the situation to the point where he pushed an officer and became verbally aggressive. He was subsequently taken into custody and issued with a warning.
In Luxembourg City, police received reports of a person disturbing the peace at the entrance to the main railway station. Officers at the scene found a man in a state of extreme intoxication. He refused to go with the police patrol at first and had to be subdued.
In Diekirch, a woman started a fight in a shop on Rue du Cure, first insulting customers, and then having an altercation with a member of staff. Officers arrived on the scene and took the woman into custody. She was highly intoxicated and tried to stamp on the officers, as well as exhibiting aggressive behaviour towards paramedics who had been called out to perform a medical check. She was subsequently taken to a cell to sober up.
At around 9.45pm, police were notified of a drunk person asleep on a bus. Efforts had been made to wake the man up, but in vain. He eventually regained consciousness when paramedics arrived, but became aggressive towards the authorities and was ultimately taken into custody.
