Luxembourg’s Christmas looks set to be a cold one, with a pronounced drop in temperatures after an unusually mild start to the festive week, according to Meteolux.

Saturday and Sunday will remain relatively unsettled but mild for late December, with plenty of cloud, the odd light shower, and daytime highs between 7 °C and 10 °C. Overnight temperatures will stay close to freezing, limiting any risk of frost early in the period.

Conditions begin to cool from Monday, with highs dropping to around 5 °C under persistent cloud cover. By Tuesday, colder air moves in, bringing daytime temperatures closer to 4 °C and increasingly chilly nights.

The most significant shift arrives midweek. On Christmas Eve, temperatures are expected to drop to around 3 °C, with brisk winds adding to the chill. Overnight, skies are forecast to clear, allowing temperatures to fall sharply.

By Christmas Day, early forecasts point to lows of –4 °C, raising the likelihood of widespread frost in the morning. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain low (–2 °)
, with little recovery under clear or lightly clouded skies.

The late-week freeze could lead to icy patches on untreated roads and pavements, particularly in rural areas, and motorists are advised to take care during early morning journeys.
