Police were called to Houserstrooss in Wilwerwiltz at around 2am on Wednesday following reports of a violent physical dispute.
According to initial findings, an argument between two acquaintances escalated, resulting in a man assaulting a woman and injuring her with a knife.
The suspect fled the scene after the incident but was located during a police search in a caravan opposite the church in Wilwerwiltz. Several knives were recovered at the time of the arrest.
When officers arrived, the woman was found with severe injuries and was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
