A person in Berchem was the victim of a violent robbery involving a knife in the early hours of Saturday evening. Three individuals are reported to have taken part in the assault.
Two minors, aged 16 and 17, have been arrested and placed at the Schrassig penitentiary centre, judicial authorities said on Monday morning. The third suspect is still at large.
According to preliminary findings, the victim had been lured to the scene before being confronted by the three suspects. During the assault, the victim was threatened with a knife and intimidated, and a number of personal items were subsequently stolen.
Investigations by the Grand Ducal Police quickly led to the two suspects being identified and tracked down. Both were arrested. During the arrest, one of the minors briefly managed to break away before being brought under control.
Officers were also able to recover all the stolen items, which were returned to the victim.
Given the seriousness of the incident, in particular the use of a bladed weapon and the violence involved, the Public Prosecutor's Office requested that the two minors be placed in a secure detention facility.
Owing to a lack of available space at UNISEC, the security unit of the National Socio-Educational Centre (CSEE), which houses minors involved in more serious offences, they were sent to Schrassig prison instead.
The Public Prosecutor's Office also noted that one of the teenagers had absconded from an open educational centre where he had previously been placed for other reasons.
Searches are ongoing to locate the third suspect and to fully piece together the circumstances of the assault.
