According to the (real) police, a motorist was the victim of theft at a motorway stop on the A6 on Monday afternoon.
The man in question was driving eastbound and had stopped at the Capellen motorway stop, and was approached by three men at 4.45 pm.
The three fraudsters were in a grey car, appearing to be registered in Luxembourg and equipped with a blue siren. The men claimed to be plainclothes police officers who wanted to check the man's van under the pretext of searching for drugs.
In their 'search', the scammers stole an envelope containing cash. Once the victim realised the fraudulent nature of the search, the thieves forced him to go into his van before they escaped.
According to the police description, the three men were in their 30s, were wearing civil clothes alongside caps with the inscription 'police'. They also had a fake police badge and appeared to be wearing bulletproof vests. The thieves spoke in French and English.
Any information on the suspects should be provided to the Capellen police station at (+352) 244 301 000.
