In the courtyard of Lycée du Nord, the number 50 allowed the pupils to come closer together: for once, the 1,200 pupils didn't have to sit at their desks, but got to be active for 50 minutes. There was no set program, instead they were able to choose their activity themselves.
About a dozen workshops were on offer. Besides the traditional sports disciplines, some more alternative forms were also offered.
In a society which suffers from physical inactivity in which obesity isn't only on the rise abroad, but also at home, it is very important to motivate young people to be active regularly.
Luc Holtz was one of the celebrities who led workshops. Swimming, for example, was led by Laurent Carnol, our most famous swimmer.
For basketball, pupils benefited from the tuition of successful Etzella coach Kresimir Basic.
Not all pupils were physically active, as some of them got to hone their organisational skills.
One can only hope that those active 50 minutes were not the end, but just the beginning of increased physical activity for the school's pupils.
We will be waiting to see what happens on the school's 100th anniversary.
