Unusual animal rescue
Emergency services were called to Marienthal on Wednesday morning to rescue a cow trapped in the River Eisch.

Firefighters were alerted by a concerned passer-by after an Angus cow, weighing around 700kg, became stranded in the River Eisch in Marienthal. Although the water was not deep, the animal was unable to free itself and appeared disoriented when rescue teams arrived on the scene.

Before the cow could be lifted from the water, it first had to be sedated to ensure the operation could be carried out safely.

The animal remained calm throughout the procedure and did not resist as it was hoisted to safety with a crane. The landing was gentle, and the cow appeared relieved to be back on solid ground.

Alongside the local fire brigade, the Animal Rescue Group (GSAN) and the Logistics Support Centre (CSL) assisted with the rescue operation.
