On Monday, Luxair flight LG372, which was operating the route between Sal in Cape Verde and Luxembourg, was diverted to Madrid as a precautionary measure.
During the flight, a crack was detected in a cockpit window. The Luxair Boeing 737-700 landed safely in Madrid at 8.27pm on Monday evening.
In a statement released on Monday night, Luxair said that passengers were kept continuously informed by the captain and the cabin crew, and that their safety was guaranteed at all times.
The airline is now taking care of the affected passengers at the airport, with a replacement flight to Luxembourg scheduled for Tuesday.
In the press release, Luxair apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked passengers for their understanding. The airline stressed that, while every effort is made to avoid disruptions, the safety of passengers and crew remains its absolute priority.
However, during the night leading into Tuesday, some affected passengers contacted RTL to express their dissatisfaction with the assistance provided.
Earlier on Monday morning, Luxair’s new Embraer aircraft had also been forced to turn back shortly after take-off, this time on a flight bound for Barcelona.
