Emergency services were called to Grevenmacher on Monday after a man jumped from a bridge into the Moselle River for reasons that remain unclear. Witnesses say he was swept away by the current before being located and retrieved from the water by divers from the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS).

After being pulled from the river, the man was resuscitated at the scene and then taken to hospital. However, police have confirmed to RTL that he died overnight from Monday to Tuesday as a result of his injuries.

Authorities currently believe the incident was accidental, noting that there is no evidence of third-party involvement at this stage.

Several eyewitnesses told RTL that the emergency response involved multiple police patrols, including officers on both the Luxembourgish and German sides of the river, as well as paramedics.
