Mike Dickes, recognised for his bravery in saving a child from a fire, and Chantal Keller, honoured for her stroke awareness campaigns, have been selected as the Luxembourgers of the Year 2024.

As every year, RTL readers across the three platforms were able to vote for the man and woman they believe would deserve the title of "Luxembourger of the year". Until 12am on 29 December, voters were able to give their input, which they enthusiastically did. Over 2,500 readers took part in the vote. The winners were chosen from a shortlist of 10 men and 10 women.

The first award for "Luxembourger of the year 2024" goes to Mike Dickes. Dickes displayed quick reactiveness and courage in an emergency after an explosion in August where a house caught fire in Mondercange. A young boy had escaped the fire by climbing onto the roof, but he was unable to get down. Before firefighters arrived, off-duty firefighter Dickes managed to rescue the boy, navigating through the neighbours' roof to reach him and guide him to safety, away from the smoke.

The second Luxembourger of the year 2024 award goes to Chantal Keller. Having survived a stroke, she decided to dedicate herself to educating people and to help other victims. As president of the non-profit organisation Blëtz, she raised awareness to the first symptoms of a stroke and how you should react through sensitisation campaigns.

The entire interview with the Luxembourgers of the year 2024 will be screened in this evening's Journal on RTL Télé, and it will be available on RTL.lu at 7.30pm.
