Remy Eiffes was nominated for his commitment to his colleagues in the Luxembourg army, as he risked his own life to provide first aid to his comrades during the explosion at the Waldhof munitions depot, which left two dead in February 2019.

Eiffes said he was pleased with the award, but wished to pass the distinction on to the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps. He stated he had only done his job and the members of the rescue services deserved thanks for their courage and intervention on a daily basis.
