In an interview with our colleagues from RTL.lu, the party’s co-president stated that he took this decision “a while ago” and announced it to the CSV National Committee on Saturday morning.

Wiseler stressed that when he became party president two years ago, he made it clear that he was not doing so to become the party’s top candidate. At the time, the CSV was experiencing “a lot of internal difficulties,” and he stepped up to “calm the situation and restore unity and order,” Wiseler said. In his eyes, he achieved this goal while also “rejuvenating” the opposition party.

“I stepped up to find alternatives, which you will see in the election programme, and I stepped up so that we should win the next elections in October, which we will also do,” Wiseler told RTL.lu.

Along with the CSV’s other co-president, Elisabeth Margue, Wiseler has been tasked by his party to find a suitable lead candidate. According to Wiseler, he and Margue plan to present a candidate to the party’s National Council “in a few weeks.”
