1. See free films at City open air cinema

Luxembourg City is setting up a huge screen on Knuedler for one week only, screening films for free. From Barbie to Mission: Impossible and Jacques Demy to Hayao Miyazaki: the programme includes a variety of fun and entertaining films, both contemporary and classic, as well as cult movies.

2. Head to month-long music festival at Rotondes
What: Luxembourg's summer place to be

Luxembourg's music and arts scene may take a bit of a break in August, but Rotondes is always amping it up: DJ sets, live concerts, film screenings, expos, you name it - find it all at this month-long Congés Annulés ('Holidays Cancelled') festival. There's a lovely outdoor urban garden for afterwork drinks too.

3. See volleyball games and party
What: Luxembourg Beach Open
Where: Galgenberg in Esch

Volleyball teams will be competing at Luxembourg Beach Open this weekend, organised by the volleyball club of Esch. If you're a pro you can still register your team for Sunday's game, otherwise support the teams from the stands or sip cocktails until 3am at the Saturday night beach party.
4. Celebrate start of Vëlosummer

Vëlosummer, or cycling summer, invites two-wheel fanatics and outdoor lovers to discover the country by bike. Many roads are closed to motorised traffic, special routes and guided tours have been set up, luggage transport between accommodation is organised, and bike renting is possible at certain shops. 5. Visit Mudam and attend badges workshop

Mudam invites parents and children to explore the world of badges. Inspired by the Bauhaus movement, this fun little workshop will be transforming geometric shapes into unique and colourful badges. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn how to create your compositions.

6. Shop for groceries at Luxembourg City market
What: Local producers

Held twice-weekly in the very heart of the city on Place Guillaume II, the Staater Maart has something for everyone: regional, seasonal and organic products, flowers and plants, fruits and vegetables, fish, meat, baked goods, roast chicken, pasta, cheeses, and all kinds of other artisanal products.

7. Win at pub quiz
What: Trivia night
Where: Carlitos Comedy Club

Partake and win the pub quiz and trivia game show night at Carlitos Comedy Club on Friday at 6pm. Participate as a lone wolf or team – but go for the win. There's a bunch of hilarious comedy intertwined, too!
