For those of us hanging out in the Grand Duchy over the holidays, there is still plenty on to keep us all happy and entertained. 1 August – Cine Concert: Buster Keaton & Charlie Chaplin: Sherlock Jr – CINEMA

The City Open Air Cinema is closing with a special Cine Concert in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr accompanied by a live musical performance. All screenings start at 21:30 and are free of charge. Place Guillaume (Knuedler), Luxembourg City.

1 August – 1 September – Grand Ducal Palace – VISIT

Visit the Grand Ducal Palace over the summer and take a sneaky peek at the official residence of the Grand Duke, where he performs his duties as head of state. Guided tours are available in Luxembourgish, French, English and German. Tickets are available via the website of the Luxembourg City Tourist Office.

2 August – Macrame workshop – Luxembourg City – ART

3 August –Red Cross Monthly Bazaar – Luxembourg City - MARKET

3 August – Organ Recital – Notre Dame Cathedral – Luxembourg City – MUSIC

Take a moment from Saturday shopping to listen to Michel Krier playing the organ in Notre Dame Cathedral. Entrance is free. 11:00 to 11:30.

3-4 August – "Wine Culture Enjoy" – Bech-Kleinmacher – MEET

On the first weekend in August, the Luxembourg Moselle region is inviting wine lovers to “Wine Culture Enjoy” to discover museums and wineries in the region in combination with concerts and wine tastings.

3-4 August – Vintage Cars and Bikes – Steinfort – MEET

For petrol heads, this 8th national fair of motorcycles, tractors and cars manufactured before 1985 is a must. You will find stands with spare parts, equipment tools and many other stands linked to the automobile across Steinfort from the primary school to the Cultural Center.

4 August - Art Market Grund  - Luxembourg City - ART

6 August – Chris Isaak – Luxembourg City - MUSIC

Platinum-selling American singer and actor Chris Issak is performing at den Atelier with his longtime band Silvertone.Noted for his reverb-laden rockabilly revivalist style and wide vocal range, he is popularly known for his breakthrough hit and signature song "Wicked Game"; as well as international hits such as "Blue Hotel", "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing", and "Somebody's Crying". 7 August – Arboretum tour – Luxembourg City – MEET

For something different, take a guided tour through the arboretum in Kirchberg with the botanical curator from the National Musum of National History. Tours are in Luxembourgish, French and English and entrance is free.

So, for the women out there, who want to watch this weepie before the rest of the Luxembourg public, make your way to Kinepolis and take part in a Ladies Night Event. Adapted from the Colleen Hoover novel, Lily overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life. A chance meeting with a neurosurgeon sparks a connection but Lily begins to see sides of him that remind her of her parents’ relationship.

7 August – Opera: Turandot – CINEMA

A rerun of the MET performance of the Puccini opera “Turandot” is showing at Cine Utopia. All screenings start at 13.45 and performances are in their original language with English subtitles.

8 August – Gene Simmons Band – Luxembourg City – MUSIC

Discover the world of Gene Simmons, the rock legend and co-founder of the legendary band KISS. Playing at den Atelier, you can explore the life of a rock god, serial entrepreneur and philanthropist.

8 August – Alpaca Trekking – Beckerich – MEET

9-11 August – e-Lake festival – Echternach – MUSIC

Dive into the beats and rhythms at the e-Lake festival in Echternach, with headliners such as Markus Schulz and rising stars from OG Keemo, Itchy and Ben Gold. There is no camping at this year’s festival, but organisers have organised a free-of-charge shuttle bus service.

11 August – The Waiter’s Hill Race – Luxembourg City – SPORT

For the best fun you can have legally, head to de Gudde Wellen to watch waiters from different bars and restaurants as well as bar aficionados race through the streets, while carefully balancing trays filled with drinks. There will be obstacles and a catwalk at the end and the jury will pick winners – not only for speed but also for the person who did the best walk, had the best costume and spilled the fewest drinks. You can also choose to participate if you fancy your chances against the professionals.

11 August - Olympics Closing Ceremony – SPORT

A few hours after the conclusion of the women’s marathon, the final event of the Olympic Games, the Closing Ceremony will bring to a close more than two weeks of sporting feats and festivities. Wrapping up the Olympics in style, an all-new show “Records” will be staged in the Stade de France in the evening. 15 -17 August – BELONG World Music Festival – Esch-sur-Alzette – MUSIC

16 August – Midday Concert – Luxembourg City – MUSIC

Come and enjoy a classical, free concert featuring a string trio called Trio D’ARCO at the Villa Vauban Park.  The ”concerts de midi” are designed to provide music lovers with a chance to enjoy a midday musical interlude. All concerts take place from 12:30-13:30.

16 August – Mutiny on the Bounty – Rotondes – Luxembourg City – MUSIC

Renowned for their electrifying live shows, Mutiny on the Bounty are bringing their signature sound to the Rotondes, as part of the Congés Annulés Festival. The band’s signature sound is a mix of heavy riffs, intricate melodies, lush soundscapes and complex rhythms that are both challenging and accessible.

17 August – Chalk – Rotondes – Luxembourg City – MUSIC

Chalk, the three-piece from Belfast have fast established themselves as one of the most talked-about acts on the emerging scene, following the release of their debut album earlier this year. Supported by Steffou (DJ Set) at Rotondes, as part of the Congés Annulés festival.

19 August – The Amity Affliction – Luxembourg City – MUSIC

In Luxembourg for the first time, Australian rock band The Amity Affliction are performing their 2014 album “Let the Ocean Take Me” in its entirety at den Atelier. Supported by Emmure & Blacktoothed.

19 August – Protomartyr – Rotondes - Luxembourg City – MUSIC

Protomartyr’s music, inspired by the environmental and economic conditions of their hometown of Detroit are bringing their post-punk sound to the Rotondes. Supported by Bobby Would and Silent Kid (DJ set).

19 August – The Offspring – Esch/Alzette – MUSIC

22 August – Tinariwen – Luxembourg City – MUSIC

Tinariwen is a Tuareg music band formed in 1979 on the borders of Mali and Algeria. Pioneers of the assouf style (“nostalgia” in Tamashek), they address Taureg people’s preoccupations in songs that mix traditional West African and Arab music with blues, folk and other influences. Playing at den Atelier. Tickets are 37,80 and still available at time of writing.

23 August – 11 September - Schueberfouer 2024 – Luxembourg City – FAIR

Get ready for non-stop excitement & food at Luxembourg’s iconic fun fair,the Schueberfouer, running for 20 days until the 11 September . From delicious Gromperekichelcher to bumper cars and terrifying rides, this is the most fun you can have in Luxembourg.

24 August - Antique and Flea Market - Luxembourg City - MARKETS

Bargain hunters and visitors can peruse and acquire curios, collectors' items and treasures at the antique and flea market (marché à la brocante), held on Place d’Armes twice a month.

26 August – Swing Social Dance – Luxembourg City – MEET

Have you ever wanted to try swing dancing? Then this is your chance at a beginner taster class, held at  Rotondes from 19:00-22:30. Entrance is free of charge.

30 August – Midday Concert – Luxembourg City – MUSIC

Gilli Apter is one of South Africa’s top comedians, featured on the Netflix show Only Jokes Allowed, and host of the the international his show Story Party/True Dating Stories.
