1. Hear Philharmonie New Year's concert

What: Journey through classical

Begin 2024 in style with a concert of classical favourites. Items on the programme include Mozart’s invigorating overture to the opera Le nozze di Figaro, exuberant Central European dances by Brahms and Dvořák, romantic pieces by Elgar and Fritz Kreisler, and Johann Strauss' playful Tritsch-Tratsch Polka. All this while star violinist Renaud Capuçon performs double-duty, conducting the Luxembourg Philharmonic whilst also appearing as a soloist!

2. See final weekend of Christmas markets & Winterlights

What: Drink one last cup of Glühwein
Where: Various spots around Luxembourg City

Christmas stalls, fun rides and decorative lights have twinkled across Luxembourg City for the past month and a half, bringing warm, festive vibes, but all good things must come to an end. As stall owners pack up, take down their lights, and prepare to store their rides until December 2024, come and enjoy the holiday atmosphere for one last weekend - it's still just chilly enough for Glühwein!


3. Visit Bo Halbirk exhibition on life as an engraver

What: Tribute to international artist
Where: Neimenster, 28 Rue Münster, 2160 Luxembourg

Bo Halbirk passed away in 2018 and left a lasting mark on the landscape of international contemporary engraving. This exhibition shows his influences through tributes paid by 60 artists from 16 countries, all of whom knew and worked with Halbirk. With the theme 'Pandora', the title of the last series of prints he ever produced, this exhibition shows the heritage, creative and cultural wealth that surrounded Halbirk during his lifetime and beyond.

4. Find second-hand clothing

What: Sunday market

A second-hand clothing market for women, men and children will be hosted at Festikuss on Sunday. Swing by between 9am-5pm and find pre-loved gems for a brand new year.


5. Watch 'Migration'

What: Animated adventure

A family of ducks decides to leave the safety of a New England pond for an adventurous trip to Jamaica. However, their well-laid plans quickly go awry when they get lost and wind up in New York City. The experience soon inspires them to expand their horizons, open themselves up to new friends, and accomplish more than they ever thought possible. Beautiful and funny animation film (recommended as 6+) by the creators of 'Minions'!

6. Enjoy a traditional Irish music session

What: Dancers welcome!
Where: Sang a Klang, 1 Rue des Trois-Glands, 1629 Pafendall

Irish music is on the programme of Sang a Klang this Friday, as it is every first Friday of the month. The concert is organised by local organisation Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Luxembourg, which also organise other concerts with famous musicians. Keep an eye on their programme! Dinner available with prior booking here.


7. Support runners (or run yourself) for charity

What: Run for a good cause
Where: 1 Rue du Lycée, 8508 Redange
When: Sunday, 7 January as of 8.45am - info & registration here

Runners of Redange are braving wintery temperatures this Sunday to run courses between 6-19km for a good cause. Walkers depart at 8.45am and runners at 10am. There are showers and changing rooms available on site, free post-race massages and catering, entertainment and daycare for children. Register yourself online, or support runners at the event.
