The Josy Barthel stadium has reopened to the public this weekend after undergoing extensive roof repairs.

At the end of June, parts of the ceiling had collapsed in the main stand, leading authorities to close the stadium and running track for the duration of the repair.

These are likely to be the last major repairs carried out on the Josy Barthel stadium, which has seen its use dwindle since the inauguration of the Stade de Luxembourg in 2021. However, the stadium is still home to the CSL athletics club, with plans for a new athletics stadium in Hamm going out to tender in September. It is hoped it will be completed in time for the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) in 2029.

Once the municipal services and sports clubs have moved on to their new homes, the Josy Barthel stadium will be converted into a residential area along the Route d'Arlon, providing housing for around 2,000 people over the 10-hectare space.
