Two men are standing trial on Tuesday over the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Bonnevoie in 2021. At the time of the murder, the defendants were only 15 and 17 years old.
Both are accused of having fatally stabbed the victim, an 18-year-old student at the Bonnevoie secondary school, and are now facing charges of manslaughter and bodily harm.
The case caused a stir in January 2021, not only because the attack and the subsequent intervention by emergency responders were partly filmed and shared on social media, but also due to the broader reaction it provoked. The teenager’s death led to a wave of political responses at both local and national level, sparking discussions on youth violence, the role of parents and schools, and the effects of social isolation during lockdown.
Social networks, like Snapchat, were also criticised for their potential influence in such incidents.
