After drones caused significant disruption to air traffic on Friday, numerous people again reported drone sightings on Saturday evening, but authorities determined that no action was necessary.

Several drone sightings were reported to RTL on Saturday evening from areas including Helperknapp, Diekirch, Mersch, and Ingeldorf. The inter-ministerial drone task force released an update on Sunday afternoon, confirming it had reconvened that morning to analyse the situation. According to authorities, police received multiple reports on Saturday night of potential drones in Luxembourg’s airspace, which were subsequently verified.

No security threat identified

The task force concluded that, in none of the reported cases, was an intervention by authorities required. The incidents were not considered a security concern, nor was there any disruption to public order. In fact, many people had mistaken aircraft lights in the night sky for drones. The government, the drone task force, and other relevant authorities have stated they will continue to monitor the situation.

Technical support from abroad

To improve monitoring and detection of drones in Luxembourg’s airspace, the authorities also used technical equipment provided by international partners, which enabled a more thorough assessment of the situation.

Security considerations

Authorities said that, for security reasons, no further details will be provided for now.
