Potential candidates for the opposition party CSV have until Wednesday 6pm to hand in their candidature applications in person. Should they send in their application by mail, they have until 9 January to post their letter. Elections will be held on 26 January in Moutfort to determine the new CSV party president, secretary general and vice-chairmen.

In December, CSV MEP Frank Engel already announced his interest in the post of party leader in an RTL interview. Other names for the position have been heard in political circles. While they have not officially confirmed a candidacy, it is believed that Serge Wilmes, Diane Adehm or Gilles Roth could run against Engel. The CSV MP Felix Eischen has been named as a possible candidate for the post of secretary general. All candidacies will be revealed on 10 January.

A similar assembly will take place to determine a new party leader for the LSAP (Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party), which is currently in government. Candidatures have to have been handed in by 15 January. Similarly, no names have been revealed yet, but it is said that MP Franz Fayot has expressed an interest in taking on the job.

A the party leader election will take place on 22 January in Bascharage.
