CSV leadership battlelines drawnSerge Wilmes and Frank Engel to go head to head over CSV presidency

RTL Today
The CSV's party assembly will take place on 26 January, as members vote for a new president of the Christian Social People's Party. As tipped, the contest will be a duel between Serge Wilmes and Frank Engel.

Candidates had until Wednesday 6pm to express an interest for the position.

On Wednesday afternoon, Wilmes, the first alderman of Luxembourg City, handed in his application in person.

The MEP Frank Engel had already announced his interest in running for the position in December on Radio Lëtzebuerg and reiterated this interest on the radio on Wednesday morning.

While written applications had to be posted by 9 January, it is relatively unlikely, although not impossible, that another candidate will be joining Wilmes and Engel in this head to head. If this does happen, then we will know by Thursday evening.

The CSV's New Year reception is taking place later on Thursday. The national committee will meet first to verify the applications and then confirm them at 6.30pm.
