Police responded to dozens of incidents across Luxembourg on Sunday night, as celebrations following Portugal's football victory over Spain led to public disturbances and one road closure in Esch-sur-Alzette.

Luxembourg police were called out 40 times on Sunday night due to disturbances, some of which were linked to celebrations following the Portugal vs Spain football match.

After Portugal secured the win, jubilant supporters took to the streets, leading to several public disturbances. In Esch-sur-Alzette, the celebrations escalated to the point where Boulevard JF Kennedy had to be temporarily closed. According to police, a large number of fans gathered in the area to celebrate, prompting the road closure for safety reasons.

Disturbance at Ettelbruck emergency department

Earlier the same day, another incident occurred at the emergency department of the Centre Hospitalier du Nord (CHdN) in Ettelbruck. A report was made about an individual behaving aggressively on the premises. When officers arrived, they found a person who was heavily intoxicated and causing a disturbance. After being examined by a doctor, the individual was taken into custody.

The police have not released further details but confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
