Good evening. Here are the most important national and international stories of the day concerning the coronavirus pandemic.

In Luxembourg:

  • Minister of Health Paulette Lenert gave a comprehensive update on the number of patients in intensive care and the state of the healthcare system. You can find our live ticker coverage of her press conference here.
  • Minister of Education Claude Meisch declared that it will be known by Friday whether Luxembourg's schools are to open again before the summer break.
  • A resident captured an amazing video of the silent streets of Luxembourg City in lockdown.

In Monday's international developments:

  • Global coronavirus cases stand at 741,724, with 35,305 deaths and 156,838 recoveries. You can find more detailed statistics here.
  • As cases continued to soar in the United States, President Donald Trump declared that the US death rate would probably not peak for another two weeks.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has gone into self-isolation after an aide tested positive, as Hungary's parliament gave Viktor Orban's government sweeping new powers to fight the virus. 
  • The Tokyo Olympics will now be held from 23 July to 8 August 2021.
