The defendant was initially driving northbound on the A3 towards Luxembourg City, but then reversed for around 700 metres in order to backtrack via the Bettembourg interchange and continue on the A13 towards Esch-sur-Alzette.
The man's 'backwards' driving was also intended to try and escape the police.
Police officers eventually caught up with the motorist to note that in addition to his driving backwards, he also sped at 140 kilometres per hour instead of the permitted 70km/h.
Finally, the police tested the man for alcohol and found his blood alcohol content was much above the permitted amount.
The court fined the driver €1,000 and gave him a suspended driving ban of 18 months.
