2012 hostage caseMain defendant names himself as the organiser

The main accused told the court he had planned the crime two weeks prior to carrying it out.

The trial concerning the hostage taking which lasted three days in December 2012 entered its sixth day of proceedings. Four people are on trial for their respective involvement in the case.

One man was robbed at home before a jeweller involved in the hostage-taking was involved in the theft of valuable watches. Two of the accused then absconded to Paris by car with a hostage.

One of the defendants told to the court that he had prepared his plan about two weeks before the act was carried out. He was said to have met a second defendant in prison and trusted him without providing any details. This second individual reportedly met the main victim from the first day of the hostage crisis and went to his home. He then withdrew money from the victim's credit cards before returning to his home and wounding him in the ribs after an escape attempt.

He also reportedly put pressure on the victim to collect more watches from other jewellers. The stolen 140,000 euros were thus also brought back to the victim's home. They then visited on the premises of a trustee in Luxembourg City before holding all the people in the building hostage, tying them up in the cellar. Two of the accused then left for Paris with the main hostage in a stolen car.

The organiser of the crime also stated that a security key had been installed recently, without which they could have stolen more. His first accomplice then returned home while two other accomplices joined the theft. The first took the role of the driver to Paris, the other took care of the watches.

The trial will continue on Friday morning.
