Demonstration on 8 MarchLSAP and Left Party support Women's March across the capital

Both the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) and the Left Party ('Déi Lénk') argue that the municipality should not systematically ban all protests from the city centre.

The organising committee of the JIF (Journée internationale des femmes – International Women’s Day) platform had previously criticised the municipality of Luxembourg City for putting them on the same footing as the organisers of the demonstrations against the Covid-19 measures. Like the latter, the organisers of the women’s march on 8 March were assigned the same corridor between the Glacis car park and Place de l’Europe. Mayor of Luxembourg City Lydie Polfer later explained that the route of the women’s march has not yet been defined.

In this context, the opposition councillors of the LSAP and the Left Party spoke out in favour of organising the 8 March demonstration, as had been requested, between the central railway station and the city centre. The JIF platform is supported by the Left Party and the Socialist Women.
