After Haagen decided not to run for party president again, Franz Fayot will take over.
The party congress will take place on Tuesday evening in Bascharage. The party wants to modernise itself, which is why a new party president election was to be held. However, only LSAP politician from the centre constituency Franz Fayot actually wanted the job and became a candidate.
The same is true for the post of secretary general of the party. The only candidacy for the job was announced by Tom Jungen, mayor of Roeser. He will step in Yves Cruchten's footsteps, who held the post since 2010.
During Tuesday evening's national congress, the LSAP party will also elect a new female and male vice president. Paulette Lenert, Luxembourg's current minister for cooperation, wants to take one one of the vacant posts.
For male vice presidency, three people have thrown their names into the hat: Dudelange mayor Dan Biancalana and LSAP politicians Joe Gomes and Asim Djecvic.
