Cross-border operation 'Hazeldonk'Extensive roadside checks conducted on Thursday to combat drug trade

As part of a cross-border campaign between the Benelux and France, police and customs officers conducted extensive controls in Schengen on Thursday between 7.30 to 11.30pm. 

A total of 40 police officers and seven customs officers were on duty between 7.30 and 11.30pm. 42 vehicles and 73 people were checked, three of which were caught with illegal substances and another had consumed drugs.

Two fines for drug abuse were dealt, as well as one report filed for driving under the influence of drugs.

A second report was compiled after a vehicle with invalid papers was caught. That same driver was in possession of a small quantity of cannabis.
