According to German media reports, the driver involved in a crash at the Wasserbillig border crossing on Sunday – which saw the car plunge into the river Sûre – has died from his injuries.

The incident occurred around 12.20am on Sunday night, on the German side of the border between Wasserbillig and Wasserbilligerbrück, where a car veered off the road and fell into the Sûre river, landing upside down in the water.

All three occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries, some of them serious, and were transported to nearby hospitals. The driver was critically injured and later passed away in hospital as a result of his wounds, according to Lokalo.de.

Emergency services from both Luxembourg and Germany responded to the accident, including teams from Mertert, Manternach, and Luxembourg City’s medical emergency services, as well as crews from Langsur, Igel, and Trier. Divers and environmental specialists were also called to the scene due to the nature of the incident.
