Italian cyclist Davide Piganzoli, riding for Visma Lease a Bike, claimed victory in the fourth stage of the Škoda Tour de Luxembourg on Saturday. The individual time trial covered 20km in Ettelbruck and saw Piganzoli not only take the stage win, but also strengthen his position at the top of the overall standings ahead of Sunday's final stage. Fellow Italian Andrea Raccagni finished second, just three seconds behind, with Britain's Leo Hayter rounding out the podium in third place.
Luxembourg’s Mathieu Kockelmann delivered a strong performance on home roads, finishing as the top local rider in 25th place with a time of 28.00,69, one minute and eleven seconds behind Piganzoli.
In the general classification, Piganzoli increased his advantage over his rivals. Frenchman Matteo Vercher now sits second, 47 seconds behind the Italian, with compatriot Thomas Gachignard two seconds further back in third. Arno Wallenborn is the best-placed Luxembourger in the general standings, occupying 25th position and trailing the leader by 8 minutes and 27 seconds.
The race concludes on Sunday with the fifth and final stage, a 177km route taking the riders from Mersch to Limpertsberg.
Aurélien Paret-Peintre of Decathlon CMA CGM Team also put in a notable ride. The Frenchman was second at the first intermediate time check, but lost time in the latter part of the course and ultimately finished sixth. Alpecin-Premier Tech’s Mathieu van der Poel will be disappointed with his result, managing only 61st place with a time of 29.34,85.
Other top Luxembourgish results included Arno Wallenborn in 41st, one minute and fifty seconds back. Luc Wirtgen finished 66th, nearly three minutes off the pace. Loic Bettendorf recorded a time of 29.46,87 for 71st place, while Alexandre Kess and Larry Valvasori occupied 75th and 76th respectively. Mats Berns finished 79th with 30.21,40, narrowly ahead of Noé Ury who completed the course in 30.30,98 for 81st place.
