The fire, which took place in May 2019, began in the building's basement before spreading through the building to the roof. It destroyed five apartments, caused masses of material damage and resulted in two people being rushed to hospital for smoke inhalation.

The restaurant was forced to close down, while residents were moved to accommodation elsewhere.

The work needed to restore the building after such extensive damage is expected to conclude in June, according to a press conference given by city mayor Lydie Polfer on Wednesday morning.

The building, which belongs to the municipality, requires mass refurbishment after the destruction caused by the flames and water.

Polfer underlined the fact that fire doors had been ordered as part of the restoration.
The Brasserie Guillaume will renovate its rooms from top to bottom to reopen in a new light. During the reconstruction works, the other restaurants (Osteria, Altra Osteria and Pas Sage) were able to partially offset the loss of income, selling oysters at markets and organising the Carpaccio Festival at the neighbouring Osteria, but it is time for manager Sébastien Sarra and his teams to be able to welcome customers again.

Sarra said their architect was working alongside city services to complete the work as fast as possible, allowing for authorisation and Luxcontrol checks.
