Smartphones, purses, bags and other accessories are amongst the most commonly stolen items. When you leave your car, you should either take your personal belongings with you, or put them away so that they cannot be seen from outside, police recommend. It is also always safer to park in a well-lit and busy area.

Organised gangs from abroad specialise in disassembling and stealing airbag systems or sat navs. The police are currently investigating this issue.

There has also been an increase in bicycle thefts. Numbers have risen dramatically over the last year, notably from 254 to 468 cases reported to the police.

Bike owners are urged to use high quality padlocks and only to leave bikes in secured areas. The police also advise owners to take note of their bike’s details, including the brand, frame number, model, serial number, and colour. It is also a good idea to take pictures of the bike - they might come in handy in case of a theft.

The police also offer a free marking service. Bikes will additionally be marked with a "registered bicycle" sticker, which could have a dissuasive effect on potential thieves. Like cars, bikes should also best be left in well-lit and bustling areas.
