Ahead of Saturday's gathering, organisers Freda Deed and Carrie Cannon joined Today Radio's Sam Steen and Meredith Moss to discuss the event's mission to raise cancer awareness.
Race for the Cure is a Europe-wide initiative aiming to raise awareness as well as funds to help breast cancer organisations and hospitals. Since 2019, Think Pink Lux has been organising the event in Luxembourg.
Think Pink Lux themselves initially aimed to fill a gap among expats seeking support in their mother tongue. Cannon, who co-launched the project, explains: "We thought we’d just have a one-off to show some solidarity and support for women, but people wanted more."
Over the past 16 years, Think Pink has established itself as a community resource, hosting events from yoga classes, to weekly walks, and the increasingly popular Race for the Cure run.
Now in its 7th edition, the race will take place this Saturday, 12 October. More than 600 participants have already signed up. Participation fees start at 20 euros for adults and 10 euros for children.
Check-in will be open from 9am, at Echternach Youth Hostel, which will be serving coffee to participants in the morning and hosting a barbecue at lunch.
The day will start with Zumba warm-up at 10.15am, followed by the first departures at 10.30am. The final departures are scheduled at noon.
Cannon emphasises that it's not a run, and while some take it more seriously, she says: "It's just fun, it's a great gathering."
So whether you'll be running or walking, Saturday's event welcomes all adults, children, and dogs willing to assemble for a good cause.
To join the race, register as an individual or team on the event’s official website.
