Artist Rafaela Bermond is currently working on a new mural on the walls of the Red Cross' Hariko centre in Ettelbruck.

Bermond joined the Hariko project in 2023 and has her own workshop in Ettelbruck.

Hariko is a youth programme run by Luxembourg's Red Cross and aims to provide an artistic outlet for young people aged 12-26, supplying workshops for dance, graffiti, jewel creation, musical instruments and much more.

Bermond, a visual artist, illustrator and art educator, is currently at the helm of the ongoing mural project, in which she hopes to highlight themes such as youth, creativity, society and culture through her art.

The process

First, the base paint was applied to the wall over two days. This stage was then followed by detailed drawings of characters and elements representing the Hariko centre's artistic and social life.

During the painting phase, the wall remains covered, but the mural will be unveiled without scaffolding from 29 August onwards.

Hariko workshops are free to attend and change every three months, to allow for more diversity and variety on offer. Established artists and musicians collaborate as part of the project to introduce children and young people to creative outlets.
