With temperatures set to soar on Wednesday and an orange weather alert in place, several municipalities across Luxembourg have announced class cancellations or restrictions to ensure pupil safety.

A number of communes have taken individual decisions to adapt to the extreme heat.

No school at all on Wednesday

In Dudelange, children in the Precoce classes are excused from school on Tuesday and Wednesday. For those who still wish or need to attend, care will be provided. The Maison Relais will remain open during its usual hours.

Children who will not be attending school should be reported absent by their parents – before 8am for school and before 9am for the Maison Relais. The Maison Relais hotline is: 51 61 21 – 5678.

Compulsory schooling will be suspended on Wednesday, 2 July, from 11:35am onwards. Teaching staff will provide supervision for children who remain at school. The SEA (school-related childcare service) will operate as usual.

In Feulen, there are no classes at the Ecole fondamentale Am Kuebebongert due to the forecast temperatures. Childcare will be provided and school transport is running as normal.

In Hamm, St George's International School will be closed, therefore there will be no lessons or students and staff on site. Additionally, there will be no after-school care or extra-curricular activities on Tuesday afternoon.

In Kayl-Tétange, compulsory schooling for all levels from Precoce to Cycle 4 is suspended. Supervision at schools is guaranteed.

In Mertert-Wasserbillig, the municipality announced that school lessons for Cycles 1 to 4 will be suspended. Teachers will remain on-site to welcome pupils, and Maison Relais services will operate as normal.

In Rumelange, pupils from Precoce to Cycle 4 may stay at home on 2 July. Supervision will be offered for children whose parents are working and cannot be released.

Afternoon classes cancelled

In Beckerich pupils will be released from school on Wednesday afternoon due to the heat. School staff will ensure supervision in the respective school buildings for children who do not go home. School transport will also be guaranteed.

The school syndicate SYNECOSPORT has announced that there will be no classes on Wednesday afternoon at the school in Berbourg. Supervision will be provided by teaching staff, and school transport will operate as usual.

In Bertrange compulsory schooling will be suspended from 12pm on Wednesday. Teaching staff will provide supervision for children who remain at school. The SEA will operate during regular hours, and school transport will run as usual.

In Bettendorf, afternoon classes on Wednesday are cancelled due to the heat. Supervision for pupils will be provided.

In Betzdorf, the local council has also decided to cancel Wednesday afternoon classes at the primary school. Supervision will be provided by teaching staff, and school transport will operate as usual.

School attendance in the municipality of Bissen is not mandatory on Wednesday afternoon for cycles 1 to 4. Supervision will be provided by teaching staff during this period. The Maison Relais will operate as usual, and school buses will run according to their normal schedule.

The Biwer commune has decided that no classes will be held on Wednesday afternoon. All pupils are therefore excused from lessons between 1.50 and 3.40pm. For children who do attend school on Wednesday afternoon, supervision will be provided. The Maison Relais and school transport will operate as normal.

In Clervaux, classes for primary school pupils in Reuler will not take place on Wednesday afternoon. Supervision by teaching staff is guaranteed during this period. The Maison Relais remains open as usual.

The municipality of Consdorf informs that due to the forecast weather conditions, school will be cancelled on the afternoon. Teaching staff will provide on-site supervision during regular school hours. The Maison Relais will remain open during its usual opening hours. School transport will operate as normal.

In Dalheim, teaching staff will be present on-site to provide supervision and organisation.

Dippach informs that due to the forecast weather conditions, school will be cancelled on the afternoon.
Teaching staff will provide on-site supervision during regular school hours. The Maison Relais will remain open during its usual opening hours. Parents are kindly asked to inform the Maison Relais if their children will not be attending.

In Dudelange Precoce classes are cancelled for two days, but supervision is available. Primary school continues as normal. Maison Relais stays open; absences must be reported by 8pm (school) or 9pm (Maison Relais). The Youth House is closed on 1 and 2 July but will offer water activities and supplies to schools on 2 July.

In Echternach classes for Cycles 1 to 4 will be cancelled on Wednesday from 2–4pm. LASEP lessons are also cancelled. The Maison Relais will remain open as usual.

No school in the afternoon in Ell, but supervision will still be provided and the Maison Relais will operate at its usual times.

The Billek school syndicate in Flaxweiler and Wormeldange has excused its pupils from classes on Wednesday afternoon.

In Garnich, no classes will take place in the schools. Supervision is guaranteed, and school buses will run normally.

In Grevenmacher, primary school attendance on Wednesday afternoon is not mandatory. Staff will be present to provide supervision. The music school will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, with exams taking place as planned.

Classes on Wednesday are cancelled from 2pm to 3.50pm. School will end at 12.15 in Grevels and 12.05 in Grosbous. There will be no afternoon school transport. Supervision will be provided on-site for children who cannot stay home. Maisons Relais remain open as usual. Parents are asked to inform both the teaching staff and Maison Relais of any changes.

There will be no classes for Cycles 1 to 4 in Junglister. Supervision will be provided at the sites in Junglinster, Bourglinster and Gonnerange. The Maison Relais will remain open during its usual hours.

In Kehlen, the school will close on Wednesday afternoon, but supervision is guaranteed. The Maison Relais remains open.

In Kopstal, Cycles 1 to 4 will have no school on Wednesday afternoon. During this time, supervision will be ensured by teaching staff. LASEP activities are also cancelled. The Maison Relais will operate as usual, and school transport will run normally.

In Lenningen/Canach, pupils will be released from classes on Wednesday afternoon due to the heat. School staff will be on-site for supervision and organisation.

In Lintgen, classes for Cycles 1 to 4 will be cancelled on Wednesday afternoon (1.50pm–3.40pm). Supervision will be provided by teaching staff. LASEP activities are cancelled. The Maison Relais and school transport will run as usual.

Classes at the Mersch primary school (cycles 1–4) are cancelled on Wednesday afternoon. Teaching staff will provide supervision. Both Maison Relais facilities will be open during their usual hours. School transport will run as normal in the morning and afternoon. LASEP sports classes are also cancelled on Wednesday.

In Mertzig afternoon classes for Cycles 1 to 4 will be cancelled on Wednesday afternoon. However, teaching staff will provide supervision for children who remain at school. The Maison Relais will operate during its regular opening hours.

In Mondercange and Pontpierre, schoolchildren will be dismissed on Wednesday afternoon due to the forecast high temperatures.

Supervision will be provided by school staff, and activities will be adapted to suit the weather conditions. The Maison Relais will operate according to its regular schedule.

In Niederanven, the Am Sand school will be closed from 12.15pm onwards. Supervision will be provided at the Maison Relais, and school transport will operate as usual, but there will be no études surveillées. The music school will also be closed from 12.15pm onwards.

In Préizerdaul there will be no school on Wednesday afternoon. However, supervision is guaranteed, and the Maison Relais will operate during regular hours. School transport will run as usual.

In Redange/Attert, afternoon classes are also cancelled. Supervision is guaranteed, and the Maison Relais will function as usual. Music school classes on Tuesday and Wednesday are cancelled, except for scheduled exams.

In Roeser, the municipal council has decided to cancel all classes in the commune's schools (from Précoce to Cycle 4) on Wednesday, 2 July 2025, from 2pm onwards. Supervision will be provided in the respective school buildings from 2pm to 4pm.

School transport and the Pédibus service will operate as usual. The Service d’Éducation et d’Accueil (SEA) will also remain open during its regular hours.

The school festival that was planned for Wednesday afternoon on the Kannerinsel campus in Bivange has unfortunately been cancelled.

The municipal council of Rosport-Mompach has announced that, due to the forecast weather conditions, classes will be cancelled on Wednesday afternoon. Teaching staff will provide on-site supervision during regular school hours. The Maison Relais will remain open as usual.

In Sandweiler classes will be cancelled from 12.10pm on Wednesday. Supervision will be provided by teaching staff, and the Maison Relais will remain open during its usual hours.

In Schengen, the German-Luxembourg high school in Perl confirmed that classes will end at 11.40am on Wednesday due to high sunshine levels in the school building. "This measure is intended to protect our pupils. Please note that no lunch will be served in the Taverna on that day. On-site supervision will, of course, be provided until the usual end of classes at 3.55pm," the school announced.

In Schuttrange, at the An der Dällt school, classes will be cancelled from Wednesday at 2pm onwards. However, supervision will still be provided for pupils who cannot return home. Registration for this is possible via a link. More details are available here.

In Stadtbredimus, no fundamental education will be held on Wednesday afternoon. Mayor Robert Beissel confirmed that supervision will be provided in school buildings.

Steinfort primary school will close at 11.50am on Wednesday. Supervision will be provided for children who cannot stay at home. School buses and Pédibus will operate as normal. The Maison Relais remains open and will adapt to the situation.

In Troisvierges pupils from Precoce as well as Cycles 1 to 4 are released from school on Wednesday afternoon.

In Useldange, classes on Wednesday between 1.pm. and 3.50pm. are cancelled. Teaching staff will provide supervision for pupils who still come to school. The Maison Relais will continue to operate as normal.

No national measures

While a number of schools are adjusting schedules independently, Luxembourg City has confirmed that it is not considering a general "no school day" for the capital.

A severe weather risk assessment cell involving the Ministry of Education met on Monday but decided against adopting any national measures. Another meeting is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
