Luxembourg taxpayers are asked to remain vigilant, as scammers have been posing as officials working for the Luxembourg Inland Revenue and sending fake documents through registered mail.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry of Finance warns of a new type of scam in which criminals are contacting taxpayers by registered mail, posing as officials of the Luxembourg Inland Revenue (ACD) and claiming to be acting on its behalf.

These fake letters have reportedly also been received by taxpayers living abroad.

In the letter, the scammers warn the recipient of an open payment that they must settle within a short period of time. The Ministry of Finance stresses that this document is fake, including the information it contains (bank account for making the payment, signature, name of the person to be contacted, email address, and phone number).

Anyone who has fallen victim to this type of scam is urged to immediately contact the Luxembourg police by dialling 113.
