Children with cancer were given the chance to enjoy a ride in luxury cars and motorbikes on Sunday as the international charity event Drive for Miles made a stop in Luxembourg.
Dozens of families gathered for a day focused not on speed, but on joy and togetherness. Organised by the Luxembourg association Drive for Miles, the initiative called Good Ride aims to bring smiles to children battling cancer by taking them on unforgettable rides in "dream cars".
Drive for Miles president Guy Flener explained that the organisation's mission is to give sick children a day away from hospitals and treatments. He said the volunteers spend the whole day with the children, taking them for drives and meals so that, for a few hours, they can forget about their illness and simply enjoy themselves.
Flener noted that the group has already organised similar events in several European cities, including Paris, Brussels, Bonn, Dinslaken, and even Athens, which he described as their biggest gathering so far.
This weekend's Luxembourg edition was coordinated by association chairman Annick Paquay, who said the municipality of Mamer closed off the town centre to make space for the event. She said that around 42 children took part, riding in a colourful mix of vintage cars, sports cars, motorcycles, and even a classic bus. Paquay added that the convoy travelled from Mamer to Colmar-Berg, where Goodyear hosted the group for a slow, scenic drive around the area.
The outing continued through the Valley of the Seven Castles, where the children took part in a quiz before enjoying a lunch break in Strassen, ending the day with a welcome break from everyday challenges.
