Four people are set to go on trial this week as they stand accused of poisoning a Luxembourg resident and dumping his dead body in a stream in Portugal in 2021.

The defendants stand accused of poisoning a Luxembourg resident in Portugal in 2021 and then throwing his body into a stream. The victim, a Portuguese national living in Luxembourg, was found dead in August 2021 near Figueira da Foz, roughly halfway between Lisbon and Porto.

Because investigators could not rule out that the suspects might also have ties to Luxembourg, a parallel inquiry was launched in the Grand Duchy. In March 2022, the victim's girlfriend, her son, her mother, and her mother's partner were arrested. The group allegedly mixed a pesticide into the man's drink before disposing of his body.

The trial is expected to last the entire week.
