The month of May is famous for being full of opportunities for taking it a bit easier, welcoming spring (slowly but surely) and planning quick getaways.
If making the best out of long weekends was a sport, it would be a certain gold medal for Luxembourgish residents. Even though this year we have one long weekend less than the previous year, the excitement is real!
RTL Today went out to explore what residents have planned and also what opportunities there are for the ones that are still looking for inspiration.
A group of guys in the city centre told us about their plans. For one of the weekends they will be going on a weekend trip to Amsterdam for King's Day and on the way they will visit their favorite beer brewery. The four are roommates who live together in a colocation and work in the financial industry.
"We work very hard and like to do the most out of our free time and the fact that Luxembourg is so well connected." For the rest of the weekends they won't be travelling abroad, but they'll make their way to Esch/Alzette where they going to go to the Luxembourg Open Air.
Our contributors from Roux Magazine compiled a list of affordable train trips from Luxembourg, perfect if you're still looking for a spontaneous get-away that doesn't cost you the world.
Just around the corner, Marie-Josée was taking a stroll through the Saturday farmers market when she told us about her plans: "I am retired so truly it does not really matter to me. My son and his wife are going on a trip for the weekend so I have the grandkids. We will go on a hike in Müllerthal and observe how spring is coming along."
Sometimes a relaxing weekend in nature is all you need. Make sure to check out our kid-friendly hiking trails. Luxembourg is, after all, the best-kept hiking secret in Europe according to The Times.
A few steps further at a café on Place Guillaume Scarlett and James are seamlessly blending work with joy. Last Christmas, Scarlett received a thoughtful gift—a trip to her beloved Côte d'Azur, precisely during the summer season opening.
The timing couldn't have been more perfect, as shortly after, James proposed, and the couple decided to exchange vows in this picturesque setting. Thanks to the flexibility of their plane tickets, they've chosen to elongate their stay, not only to organize their wedding but also to relish a sunny long weekend in Antïbes.
Unsure about your next destination?
Last but not least we interviewed Luxair's Chief Commercial Officer Thomas Fischer about the upcoming trends who told us about an exciting new feature on their website: the holiday quiz. This interactive tool helps travelers discover ideal weekend getaways based on their preferences. As for me, it looks like I'm bound for Dubrovnik – yes, please!
Keep an eye out for Mr. Fischer if you're heading to Málaga – his next city escape.
