The Éislek region in northern Luxembourg has over 1,900 kilometres of countryside walking trails and is now certified as a "quality hiking region". For six years, authorities worked on meeting 43 criteria in order to obtain the certified status.

1 Mullerthal Trail

The Mullerthal Trail is a popular hiking route that spans over 112 kilometres of beautiful landscapes in Luxembourg's eastern region. While the full trail may be too challenging for young children, there are several shorter routes that are perfect for families with kids.

One example is the "C5", a 5-kilometre loop that takes you past the fish ponds of the former mill of Consdorf, the imposing Rammelee rock formation, and a rock labyrinth full of stairs.

2 Kockelscheuer Trail

The Exercise Kockelscheuer Trail is a 3-kilometre loop that starts and ends at the Kockelscheuer sports complex in southern Luxembourg. It's a relaxed trail that is suitable for all fitness levels and that is great to do with children. There are 14 stations along the route where you can try out and carry out different exercises. There is parking available at the course.

3 Echternach Lake Trail

The Echternach Lake Trail is a 3.5-kilometre loop that circles around the picturesque Echternach Lake in eastern Luxembourg. This trail is relatively flat and easy, making it a great option for families with young children or strollers. Along the way, you'll see plenty of ducks and swans, as well as a small beach and playground.

4 The Our Nature Reserve Trail

The Our Nature Reserve Trail in northern Luxembourg offers breathtaking views of the Our Valley, a variety of plants and animals, and the opportunity to stand in three countries at the same time at the "Three Countries Point." This point marks the spot where the borders of Luxembourg, Belgium, and Germany meet. This is a unique and exciting experience for children, as they can stand in three countries at the same time!

The trail is easy to navigate and suitable for families with children of all ages, and you can visit the Kasselt Mill, a restored water mill that offers guided tours and a cafe. It's a fantastic option for a fun and educational hiking experience with your family.

5 Esch-sur-Alzette Industrial Heritage Trail

The Esch-sur-Alzette Industrial Heritage Trail is a unique hiking route that takes you through the former industrial heartland of Luxembourg. This trail offers a mix of urban and natural landscapes, including parks, ponds, and even a castle. While some sections of the trail may be too long or challenging for young children, there are plenty of shorter routes and playgrounds along the way that are perfect for families.
