Minister of Education Claude Meisch has announced that the activities of GGM11 will be integrated into the Luxembourg Science Center (LSC). However, he clarified that this integration does not entail a complete takeover of Nicolas Didier's private company by the LSC.
While the specific details of the integration are yet to be finalised, it is expected that the staff of GGM11 will be absorbed into the Science Center. The decision comes after the Parliamentary Education Committee convened on Tuesday morning to discuss the analysis conducted by the Inspectorate General of Finance regarding the operations of the LSC.
Previously, the Ministry of Education had terminated the agreements and cut off funding of the LSC following the discovery of financial irregularities in its functioning.
As a measure to ensure the continuity of the LSC's activities, the Ministry proposed integrating GGM11's operations into the LSC, which is a registered non-profit association (ASBL). This integration would also facilitate State representation on the board of directors in the future.
While the minister stated that representatives of the LSC have accepted the condition of integration, the specific role that Nicolas Didier will play in the future remains uncertain. The matter was discussed behind closed doors during the meeting.
MPs Sven Clement of the Pirate Party and Diane Adehm of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) expressed scepticism regarding Didier's potential position at the LSC. The MPs said it would be "surprising" if Didier would obtain another employment contract with the LSC given his track record and age.
MPs should keep an eye on this case, as it involves taxpayers' money, according to Clement, who added that there should be no risk of Didier "enriching himself."
