A 2013 law stipulates that the beginning of every 30 km/h zone needs to be marked with a special zebra crossing that is clearly recognisable thanks to a red outline. According to the Centre for Urban Justice, there are no fewer than 239 cases in Luxembourg City where either the crossing is not marked red or missing altogether.

The ZUG statement concludes that motorists often do not realise that they are driving through a 30 km/h zone due to the municiapity’s “failure” to properly regulate traffic.

In 2022, the Centre already drew attention to the fact that several hundred pedestrian crossings in the capital do not comply with road safety regulations.
