Authorities detained two people on Saturday evening after one of them crashed into a police vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Around 8.30pm on Saturday evening, police were alerted to a reckless motorist going north on the A7 motorway. A patrol located the car in question outside of Ettelbruck soon after and found that the driver was not in control of his vehicle.
Officers activated their sirens and lights to signal to the driver to stop, but the latter failed to react. He continued driving in zigzags, often crossing over on to the opposing lane. He almost collided with the tunnel wall near the Ettelbruck exit.
The police patrol was finally able to overtake and stop the fugitive vehicle at the end of the tunnel. Since the driver attempted to climb on to the backseat while still driving, the car ended up crashing into the police vehicle.
Officers detained both passengers and took them to the station. The car owner and front-seat passenger was strongly intoxicated and was placed in an arrest cell to sober up. The driver also tested positive for excessive alcohol consumption and lacked a valid driving license.
Since the car was not insured, the prosecutor's office ordered for it to be seized. Complaints against both individuals were filed.
