On Wednesday, tripartite discussions focused on proposals the government had presented the previous day, aimed at curbing rising energy prices and supporting both households and businesses in the energy transition.

In the post-meeting press conference, Prime Minister Luc Frieden said that all parties are making an effort to identify shared solutions, despite the starkly differing viewpoints among those at the table.

Focus on minimum wage and housing

While housing remained on the agenda, much of the debate centred on the trade unions' demands to raise the minimum wage. The government, Prime Minister Frieden noted, understands the perspectives of both employees and businesses, but acknowledged the difficulty in reconciling the two sides.

Next steps in negotiations

Despite the current differences, the government remains committed to seeking a compromise. Ministers will meet again on Thursday morning, with the intention of presenting new proposals in the afternoon.
