Luxair announced that all its flights through to 10 am on Monday morning had been cancelled, making the decision due to severe wind gusts that have affected the country since Sunday evening.

The flight cancellations have caused the airline’s desks at Luxembourg Airport to be besieged by passengers anxious to find out when they will be travelling.

In the meantime, the Luxairport website showing arrivals and departures is certainly empty. The list of flights reveal that Luxair flights remain cancelled through to 11 am, and Swissair has cancelled its flight to Zurich scheduled for this afternoon at 2.15 pm. Accordingly, the website has seen increased traffic with the news of cancellations, and has considerably slowed down in the process.

On Twitter, Luxairport recommends checking the status of your flight with your airline before travelling to the airport.

According to the airport’s announcements, the situation should improve by 1 pm on Monday. The airport recommends all travellers continue to monitor the situation.

More information to come as the day continues. Passengers will likely not be eligible for compensation for any delays or cancellations as EU compensation laws do not hold airlines liable for delays caused by the weather.

A Luxair flight from Porto also had to be diverted to Frankfurt-Hahn after three failed attempts at landing.
